At Fizzy Offers, we test air purifiers in many ways. We look at ozone generation, coverage levels, and noise. We also check how easy they are to use and how well they purify the air.

Our main goal is to see how well they clean the air. We use a variety of tests to find out. This helps us pick the top air purifiers for you.

How We Test, Score and Review Air Purifiers

We check air purifiers in five main areas. These areas include objective and subjective assessments. The categories are:

• Air Purification
• Durability/Build Quality
• Noise
• Usability/Versatility
• Maintenance

We also look at non-scoring areas like ozone production and filter types.

1. Air Purification

This test is the most important, making up 75% of the total score. It’s an objective test. We put the air purifier in a room with smoke and particles.

We use a professional air quality detector to measure its performance. The purifier runs on its highest setting for two hours. We take measurements at the one- and two-hour marks.

The air quality detector gives us readings for:

• PM2.5
• PM10
• Airborne Particulates
• Air Quality Index (AQI) The PM2.5 measurement is key in determining the purification score.

2. Durability/Build Quality

This test is worth 5% of the total score and is a subjective assessment. We inspect the air purifier’s materials and design. We look for any issues that could cause breakage or make it hard to use.

Our rating system uses a 7-level tier system.

3. Noise

It’s worth 5% of the total score, and our noise test is objective. We measure noise levels at both the lowest and highest fan speeds. The score is based on the noise level at the highest fan speed.

4. Usability

This category is worth 5% of the score. It’s based on two parts: Setup (25% of the usability score) and Controls & Display (75% of the usability score).

• Setup: This is a subjective test where we record how long and hard it is to set up the device.
• Controls & Display: A subjective test that rates the usability and quality of the controls and display. We use a 7-level tier system. We also note what comes in the box, but this is not scored.

5. Maintenance

This test is worth 5% of the total score. It looks at two parts: Recurring Costs and Maintaining Tasks.

• Recurring Costs (50% of the maintenance score): An objective test that calculates the cost of replacement filters. We aim to find purifiers that cover more area for less cost.
• Maintaining Tasks (50% of the maintenance score): A subjective test that rates how easy maintenance tasks are. We use a 7-level system.

Ozone Levels (Special Consideration)

While the ozone test doesn’t count towards the score, it’s very important. We measure ozone levels. If the reading is 0.1 PPM or higher, the air purifier fails the test.

Any product that fails gets a 0% score and a “do not recommend” notice. Ozone at this level is harmful.
